Use of Honey in Diabetic Foot Ulcers
Dating back to ancient civilisations, the use of topical honey to heal wounds has been widely utilised. Honey is shown to have antimicrobial properties and the ability to promote wound healing . A recent study showed specific formulations of honey can be safely used to manage diabetic foot ulcers. But more clear evidence and clinical trials will be needed to provide more robust evidence.

A recent study in Indonesia has shown an increased risk of diabetic foot ulcers in people wearing sandals. Poor foot support from heel to toe and friction were thought to be contributing factors. The study concludes that proper ergonomically designed footwear should be worn at people at high risk for foot ulcers.
